Sepultura
Derrick Green – 2014-02-06 – Interview @ O2 Academy Islington, London, UK Sailing on the success of their critically acclaimed album “The mediator between head and hand must be the heart”, Sepultura furiously roams the globe, showcasing its new extraordinary drummer Eloy Casagrande. Riff Magazine sat down with Derrick Green, to discuss the band’s new found power. Derrick Green is the first to admit that Sepultura’s latest album is an earthquake in a bottle. A new found power, in part motivated by the addition of Eloy Casagrande to the ranks, which with his youth and monstrous drumming skills, reinvigorated the band and pushed it to create its most powerful statement in more than a decade. The attack on the environment, religious fundamentalism, cyber-culture are just a few of the topics discussed in a candid interview that reveals the lead singer’s inner self and what drives him and the band in this very successful chapter. 1 2 ... 46 ► Interview: Gonçalo Lemos Matias Live Photos: Irina...
Blackfield
Aviv Geffen – 2014-02-05 – Interview @ Koko, London, UK As Blackfield embark on a mini European tour to support his latest album “IV”, Riff Magazine sit down with the band’s lead composer Aviv Geffen to discuss the new album and tour. It’s a cold windy Wednesday; I am at the door of the glamorous Koko club in Camden, London. In a couple of hours, Blackfield will enter the stage, starting their mini Europe tour, to support “IV” the latest effort from Aviv Geffen, the creative engine that drives the band. A special show, as this small tour has Steven Wilson joining on stage, possibly for the last time as the barefoot performer already announced he was leaving Blackfield to concentrate on his own band and projects. This nostalgic mood could be felt in the air, the sad conversations fans were having at the door of the venue were bittersweet: glad to witness one of the last performances with Steven Wilson, but very sad for knowing that would not happen anymore. Inside, within the labyrinths of Koko, we found a relaxed Aviv Geffen, very determined and confident on the band’s future. In spite of being just on time for the show, he was gracious enough to answer a few questions....
Monkey3
Interview with the Swiss band Monkey3, on the occasion of their concert in Nantes, Le Ferrailleur. Even though Boris, the guitar player, was a bit seek, he and DB, the keyboardist had the generosity of giving us an exclusive interview before the gig. The concert in itself was of tremendous quality and began with the first track of their brand new album “the Fifth Sun”. Icarus, as it is called, is a 16 minutes epic tune perfectly fitted to give the tone of the concert from the very first moments. A dark atmosphere, the room overcrowded and a set of musicians who delivered us 16 minutes of great music. The concert was ready to go on for another hour and a half. Great show, great band, great spirit! Thank you guys!...

Alice in Chains
Alexandra Palace, London, 09/11/2013 After two promising performances by special guests such as Walking Papers ( in the band, the former drummer of Screaming Tress , Barrett Martin and bassist Duff McKagam ) and the eccentric on-stage presence of the Swedish Ghost ( band that Dave Grohl played with their magic wands ) , the crowd was exclusively at the cold Alexandra Palace for Alice in Chains, and with high expectations, they were not disappointed .Vocalist William Duvall, who recorded the last two albums with AIC is charismatic and competent. Walking on Staley’s shoes is not an easy task , but Duvall was energetic and with full control of the stage . No, he’s not a perfect match with Cantrell , but indeed he is a very important piece in the quartet. Jerry Cantrell and Co. presented songs from the exceptional album Dirt with a mixture of the newer songs, such as Hollow and Stone from the latest album released , The Devil put Dinosaurs Here . The night begun with the master sequence Them Bones , Damn in the River, Check my brain and Again . Also on the set list, Man in the box , Down in a Hole , We die young and No Excuses. Right in the middle of the set, they played Rotten Apple, and despite never having Duvall compared to Layne , the vocal similarity in that particular song that you could see people crying around you. Classic double trouble Would? and Rooster closed the London’s set. The performance had also visuals elements on big screens in the background, keeping the audience hypnotized. 1 2 ... 21 ► Photos and text by Thanira Rates...
