All Guts, No Glory” is a hymn to the Grind/Death Metal scene and having Exhumed together with Carcass at my home would be awesome!

Two things differ from Exhumed to Morbid Angel: first of all, the genre between them, it’s obvious; second, the fans had to wait eight years for a new record and guess what? They didn’t wait in vain, because the new Exhumed record is great, unlike the new record of Morbid Angel. Stupid comparison? Well, maybe, but it is a way to start the review and tell you people, sometimes waiting may be worth, sometimes not. It is logical and true according to the recent events.

The record begins with the title-track “All Guts, No Glory” sounding like a small and regular intro, but at some point I realized it is not just an intro, it would be a bigger song if the band wanted to.

When I started to listen to this record, I thought “ok, just another old school grind/death metal album with unstoppable riffs from the beginning to the end…”, but when I reached the third track, “Your Funeral, My Feast”, I opened my hears and for a second I thought I was listening to Carcass. “Through Cadaver Eyes” led me to the same feeling. Then, I figured out Exhumed can be aggressive and melodic at the same time. Honestly, the first two tracks – the title-track and “As Hammer To Anvil” – do not represent the album at all and this record evolves to something more dynamic, though very similar to what Carcass did more than ten years ago. However, I do not find it entirely negative; nowadays, we know it is hard to create something truly original, but Exhumed know what to do and how to do, because they are not a rookie band playing around.

I have something in my favour you don’t: I’m writing and listening to the record at the same time and I can talk about similarities the way I want to, however you can listen to the “I Rot Within” track at this location (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/music/1751) and you will realize I’m not lying. By the way, this song was a nice choice to show the fans something about the “All Guts, No Glory” album.

Exhumed is an old school band and I’m sure they won’t need to do much to make all the crowd moving around and an example of that is the guitar riff that starts the “Funereality” track.

Even with the five year hiatus, Exhumed are back with full force and with a new album after eight years. The “All Guts, No Glory” record may be not something entirely new, but it is catchy and energetic from the bones to the flesh.
